If it is your first visit to Lal Qila — or you are pulling together a takeout order for the whole family — start here. These are the five dishes that consistently top the list at our halal restaurant in Niagara Falls and the ones we recommend to every new guest.

1. Butter Chicken (Murgh Makhani)

Our signature Butter Chicken is the most-ordered dish on the menu, and for good reason. Halal chicken is marinated in yogurt and warming spices, charred in the tandoor, then finished in a velvety tomato-cream sauce balanced with butter and dried fenugreek. Mild enough for kids, rich enough for grown-ups, and perfect for first-timers easing into Indian and Pakistani flavor.

2. Biryani (Chicken, Lamb, or Vegetarian)

Our biryani is built the traditional way: long-grain basmati layered with slow-cooked, marinated halal meat and whole spices like bay leaf, cardamom, and cinnamon, then sealed and finished on low heat (the dum method). The result is fragrant, complex, and never greasy. Read more about how we make our biryani.

3. Seekh Kebab

Hand-minced halal meat mixed with fresh herbs, onions, green chillies, and traditional spices, then shaped onto skewers and charred in the tandoor. Served with mint chutney and lemon. Works equally well as a starter, a kebab platter centerpiece, or wrapped in fresh naan.

4. Karahi (Chicken or Lamb)

Named after the wok-style pan it is cooked in, karahi is one of the most authentic Pakistani dishes on the menu. Tender halal meat is cooked down with tomato, ginger, garlic, and green chilli into a thick, glossy sauce. Order it with naan to scoop and enjoy.

5. Tandoori Naan (Plain, Garlic, or Stuffed)

No Indian or Pakistani meal is complete without naan straight from the tandoor. Hand-stretched dough is slapped against the hot clay walls of the oven and pulled out bubbled, charred, and pillowy. We bake it fresh to order — try plain, garlic, keema (meat-stuffed), or peshwari (sweet almond-filled).

How to Order for a Group

If you are bringing a family or sharing a table with friends, this combination almost always lands well:

  • One Chicken Biryani (mild) and one Lamb Karahi (medium-spicy)
  • A plate of Seekh Kebab to share as a starter
  • Two orders of Garlic Naan and one Plain Naan
  • A side of Daal Makhani for vegetarian guests
  • Mango Lassi and Masala Chai to finish
